Hi! My name is João

Hi! My name is João Soares and my passion is to design and develop video games!

And I also play the Ukulele!

Ever since a young age I've been passionate about creating stuff and my own worlds.

I even remember my plan to become a future professional architect back then.

When I started playing video games, the tycoon ones like Rollacoaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon, Sid Meier's Railroads or even Sims were my favourite genre. Still to this day, my go-to game is Minecraft!

Then, in my last year of secondary school, I experienced programming for the first time which lead me to choose a technological area of studies at university.

I got into Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Aveiro because it has always had a great reputation.

And I even was very confident in the first year, having had the best grades at Java and Assembly MIPS programming, and later on having good classifications on the IEEE international programming competitions.

But even though it was Electronics and that I even enjoyed Digital System and robotics, I still found myself surrounded by too much unrelatable theory.

Important knowledge, an amazing University and teachers, but not exactly what made me happy.

A couple of years later, my best friend told me about a university course specifically about video games development, and I got that feeling that for the first time I really knew what I wanted to do. 

From that day on I was determined to make it a goal to attend that course.

After working 1 year full-time to be able to finance it, I moved to Barcelos to attend Digital Games Development Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA).

And at the time of writing this text, I have just graduated from it after 3 years of hard but also definitely more satisfying work.
